Medical Insurance Price Index Kenya | Imana Afya & MyKava

Review observed medical insurance prices in Kenya for individuals, families and seniors using Imana Afya and MyKava schedules for September 2026.

How Much Does Medical Insurance Cost in Kenya?

Published medical insurance prices reviewed by Imana Insurance Agency Kenya Ltd during September 2026 start from KSh 4,810 per person for a KSh 100,000 inpatient benefit under the youngest MyKava age band. For an adult aged 21–40, the published MyKava inpatient prices run from KSh 7,790 to KSh 11,800, depending on the limit selected.

Imana Afya publishes a different structure. Its KSh 500,000 inpatient schedule starts at KSh 8,230 for the principal member, while the published inpatient price for a principal member plus three dependants is KSh 15,308. Its separate outpatient schedule shows KSh 12,190 per person or KSh 21,940 per family, with KSh 75,000 outpatient, KSh 10,000 dental and KSh 10,000 optical benefits.

These figures are an observed published-price range, not a market average and not a promise that every applicant will receive the same terms. Age, family composition, benefit selection, medical declarations, eligibility, waiting periods, hospital network and underwriting can change the final quotation.

Request an Imana Afya quotation through the Imana Afya Micro Quote form or review age-banded MyKava options through the MyKava Medical application.

Quick Answer

For the profiles covered by the two schedules reviewed:

  • Individual aged 30: MyKava inpatient is KSh 7,790–11,800; outpatient is KSh 7,960–14,440.
  • Couple: Imana Afya publishes KSh 12,345 for its M+1 inpatient structure. MyKava prices each person by age and selected benefit.
  • Family of four: Imana Afya publishes KSh 15,308 for its M+3 inpatient structure and KSh 21,940 for its family outpatient structure.
  • Senior aged 60: MyKava inpatient is KSh 14,480–23,450; outpatient is KSh 12,910–20,390.
  • Senior aged 70: MyKava inpatient is KSh 17,400–33,350; outpatient is KSh 12,910–20,390.
  • SME group: both products indicate group availability, but neither reviewed page publishes a universal SME premium. A staff census is required.

Inpatient and outpatient figures are shown separately because the live schedules publish them as separate benefit sections. Do not add them together or treat the result as a final premium until Imana confirms how the selected package is priced.

What This Medical Insurance Price Index Measures

This page tracks medical insurance prices made publicly available through Imana’s first-party product pages. It is designed to answer practical questions such as:

  • What does medical insurance cost for a 30-year-old in Kenya?
  • How does age affect the published premium?
  • What are the published prices for a couple or family?
  • How much can a person aged 60 or 70 budget for medical cover?
  • Which benefit limits sit behind each price?

The index does not rank insurers and does not claim to represent every medical policy in Kenya. It is a transparent benchmark based on the pricing sources identified in the methodology.

Profile 1: Individual Aged 30

A 30-year-old falls within MyKava’s 21–40 years price band.

Published annual inpatient prices are:

  • KSh 100,000 inpatient: KSh 7,790
  • KSh 300,000 inpatient: KSh 9,260
  • KSh 500,000 inpatient: KSh 10,190
  • KSh 750,000 inpatient: KSh 11,800

Published annual outpatient prices are:

  • KSh 30,000 outpatient: KSh 7,960
  • KSh 40,000 outpatient: KSh 9,700
  • KSh 50,000 outpatient: KSh 11,290
  • KSh 75,000 outpatient: KSh 14,440

Observed published range: KSh 7,790–11,800 for inpatient and KSh 7,960–14,440 for outpatient.

Imana Afya also publishes KSh 8,230 for a principal member under its KSh 500,000 inpatient structure. Its published outpatient price is KSh 12,190 per person for KSh 75,000 outpatient, plus KSh 10,000 dental and KSh 10,000 optical benefits.

This is not an identical-product comparison. The limits and product structures differ, so compare benefits before comparing the final number.

Profile 2: Couple

For a principal member plus one dependant, Imana Afya publishes KSh 12,345 under its KSh 500,000 inpatient structure. Its outpatient schedule lists KSh 21,940 per family, with KSh 75,000 outpatient, KSh 10,000 dental and KSh 10,000 optical benefits.

MyKava prices each insured person according to age and selected limit. A couple with different ages may therefore receive different individual components. A defensible couple comparison must record both dates of birth rather than assuming that one adult rate applies to both people.

Important caveat: confirm who qualifies as a dependant, whether benefits are shared or per person, and how inpatient and outpatient selections combine before treating these figures as a final couple premium.

Profile 3: Family of Four

For a principal member plus three dependants, Imana Afya publishes KSh 15,308 under its KSh 500,000 inpatient structure.

The same schedule lists KSh 21,940 per family for the outpatient structure, which shows KSh 75,000 outpatient, KSh 10,000 dental and KSh 10,000 optical benefits.

MyKava uses age-banded per-person prices. A family quotation therefore depends on the ages of both adults and children, the chosen inpatient limit and any outpatient selection. The family cannot be priced accurately from the phrase “family of four” alone.

When requesting a quote, provide the date of birth of every member. Also confirm whether a child can be insured independently, the maximum dependant age, and whether limits are per person or shared.

Profile 4: Senior Aged 60

A 60-year-old falls within MyKava’s 55–65 years band.

Published annual inpatient prices are:

  • KSh 100,000 inpatient: KSh 14,480
  • KSh 300,000 inpatient: KSh 17,610
  • KSh 500,000 inpatient: KSh 20,180
  • KSh 750,000 inpatient: KSh 23,450

Published annual outpatient prices are:

  • KSh 30,000 outpatient: KSh 12,910
  • KSh 40,000 outpatient: KSh 15,590
  • KSh 50,000 outpatient: KSh 18,160
  • KSh 75,000 outpatient: KSh 20,390

Observed published range: KSh 14,480–23,450 for inpatient and KSh 12,910–20,390 for outpatient.

At age 60, price matters, but entry-age rules, chronic-condition terms, waiting periods, hospital access and renewal conditions can matter more.

Profile 5: Senior Aged 70

A 70-year-old falls within MyKava’s 66–75 years band.

Published annual inpatient prices are:

  • KSh 100,000 inpatient: KSh 17,400
  • KSh 300,000 inpatient: KSh 22,680
  • KSh 500,000 inpatient: KSh 26,680
  • KSh 750,000 inpatient: KSh 33,350

Published annual outpatient prices are:

  • KSh 30,000 outpatient: KSh 12,910
  • KSh 40,000 outpatient: KSh 15,590
  • KSh 50,000 outpatient: KSh 18,160
  • KSh 75,000 outpatient: KSh 20,390

Observed published range: KSh 17,400–33,350 for inpatient and KSh 12,910–20,390 for outpatient.

The reviewed MyKava schedule publishes prices through age 75. Applicants should confirm maximum entry age, renewal age, medical declarations, pre-existing-condition treatment, chronic-condition limits and any waiting periods in the current policy wording.

Profile 6: SME Group

Both Imana Afya and MyKava describe options for groups, but the reviewed pages do not publish one universal SME rate. That is the right approach: an SME with five office employees is not the same risk or demographic profile as a larger workforce with older dependants.

An SME quotation may require:

  • Number of principal members
  • Ages or dates of birth
  • Number and ages of dependants
  • Inpatient and outpatient limits
  • Maternity, dental and optical requirements
  • Preferred hospital network
  • Claims experience for an existing scheme
  • Geographical scope
  • Effective date

Observed published range: not stated for an SME group in the two reviewed schedules. Obtain a written quotation using a complete staff census.

How Age Changes the Published MyKava Price

The MyKava schedule shows a clear age effect. For KSh 500,000 inpatient cover, the published annual figure rises from KSh 5,890 for the youngest band to KSh 26,680 for ages 66–75.

For the same inpatient limit, the published figures are:

  • Youngest band up to age 20: KSh 5,890
  • Age 21–40: KSh 10,190
  • Age 41–54: KSh 14,910
  • Age 55–65: KSh 20,180
  • Age 66–75: KSh 26,680

That is why “How much is medical insurance?” has no honest single-number answer. Age and benefit limit change the result before medical history or underwriting is even considered.

What Optional Benefits Should Be Compared?

Do not compare only inpatient limits. Check:

  • Outpatient benefit
  • Maternity benefit and waiting period
  • Dental benefit
  • Optical benefit
  • Chronic and pre-existing-condition terms
  • Last-expense benefit
  • Co-payments
  • Hospital network
  • Territorial scope
  • Medical evacuation where applicable

Imana Afya’s published schedule specifically shows a KSh 75,000 maternity benefit alongside its inpatient structure, and its outpatient structure shows KSh 10,000 dental and KSh 10,000 optical benefits. Confirm the applicable terms, eligibility and waiting periods before purchase.

Methodology

This September 2026 edition reviewed two first-party product schedules published on Imana Insurance Agency Kenya Ltd’s website:

  1. Imana Afya / Micro Health Insurance: published principal-and-dependant inpatient figures and per-person/per-family outpatient figures reviewed on the Imana Health page. The conversion link is https://imana.co.ke/micro-quote.
  2. MyKava Medical Insurance: published age-banded inpatient and outpatient prices reviewed at https://imana.co.ke/mykava-product-quote.

The index records the prices displayed, the stated limits, the age bands and whether a figure is per person, per family or based on an M+dependants structure.

Number of pricing sources reviewed: 2.
Number of published MyKava price points reviewed: 40 — 20 inpatient and 20 outpatient.
Number of published Imana Afya membership-price points reviewed: 8 — six inpatient family-size figures and two outpatient figures.
Review date: September 2026.

The methodology does not weight results by insurer market share, sales volume or claims performance. It does not calculate a Kenyan market average. It reports observed prices from the named schedules only.

Important Caveats

  • Published prices can change after this index date.
  • Product structures are not identical, even where limits look similar.
  • A displayed rate is not proof that every applicant is eligible.
  • Inpatient and outpatient components should not be added unless the current quotation confirms that pricing method.
  • Waiting periods, exclusions, provider networks and co-payments can materially change value.
  • A medical declaration or further underwriting may be required.
  • Taxes, levies, administration terms or optional benefits should be confirmed in the written quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest medical insurance price observed in this index?

The lowest published figure reviewed is KSh 4,810 for KSh 100,000 inpatient cover in MyKava’s youngest age band. This is not a market-wide minimum and does not apply to every age.

How much is medical insurance for a 30-year-old in Kenya?

For the MyKava 21–40 age band, published inpatient prices range from KSh 7,790 to KSh 11,800. Published outpatient prices range from KSh 7,960 to KSh 14,440. Limits and terms differ.

How much is medical insurance for a person aged 70?

For MyKava’s 66–75 age band, published inpatient prices range from KSh 17,400 to KSh 33,350. Published outpatient prices range from KSh 12,910 to KSh 20,390.

Does a family pay one shared premium?

It depends on the product. Imana Afya publishes M+dependant figures and a family outpatient figure. MyKava publishes age-banded per-person figures. Confirm the family definition, individual limits and final total in writing.

Is the lowest price the best medical cover?

Not automatically. A cheaper plan may have a lower limit, narrower hospital network, waiting periods, exclusions or co-payments. Compare protection and access, not just premium.

Where can I request a current medical insurance quotation?

Use the Imana Afya Micro Quote form or the MyKava Medical application. You can also visit www.imana.co.ke and www.mykava.co.ke.
